This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." by Dr. Seuss. This quote sums up the goal I have for my students. I have 26 amazing first graders who live in a low-income, high poverty area where they face many challenges in their daily lives, but they love school!

My goal is to instill in each child a love of learning and the belief that they can do anything!

They come to school each day excited and ready to learn. My desire is to provide them a safe and loving environment where they can thrive.

My Project

Teaching children how to read requires meeting each student at their instructional level and providing them with innovative and effective reading instruction that meets each individual's needs. After testing each of my students individually, I then group them according to their reading levels. Once in their guided reading groups, I teach them the necessary skills to learn how to read. We work on using various reading strategies such as using context clues, letter and sound relationships and word structure. In order for me to give these children the best possible instruction I need to use quality reading books that are geared for their reading level. Guided reading is a strategy for helping children become strong readers. With these leveled texts that gradually increase in difficulty, students apply strategies in context and feel successful! My goal is for students to become confident, proficient readers who love to read!

Can you imagine a world without books?

Can you imagine trying to learn how to read without support of quality reading books? My students truly need these leveled reading books so that they can learn how to become strong readers. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of my first graders.
