Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My young students are Kindergarteners. They are fun, energetic, and curious five to six year-olds. My students are ready to learn about math, reading, and writing. My students are eager to learn math facts, and how to be good readers and writers. My students live on the southwest side of Chicago. Most of my students are second language learners.

We like to draw and write in our writing journals, and our teachers help us to write complete sentences.

It is exciting to be an author and an illustrator. We are also learning how to add and subtract, use a ten-frame, and count on a number line. The supplies we need will help to stock up our reading, writing, and math centers. Who knows? Maybe we might have a famous author, illustrator, or the next math genesis in our class!

My Project

My students need to learn how to read and write during remote learning. The materials will support students' literacy learning from home. The guided reading books will help students from home to read daily and the anchor charts will help provide the visuals that English Language Learners need to learn how to sound out words and learn vowels. It is so critical that English Language Learners have the books and anchor charts to help them learn a new language.

The writing easel will help with distance learning by providing a space for me to present during remote-live learning online.

Many of the students struggle to see the small tabletop easel I use to write and introduce new vocabulary and words for the week. Many times, I have to adjust the mini tabletop easel so children may write down the new words of the week in their word journals.
