Readers are Leaders

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need to get excited about reading. Having new books will give them this opportunity and will motivate them to read more. I want them to curl up with a book and not want to put it down.

My students are second language learners living and learning in a low socioeconomic, inner city neighborhood in New York City.

They don't get a lot of educational support at home, so it is really important for them to go home everyday with a book to read.

My Project

My students will have the opportunity to overcome social and economic barriers which prevent them from succeeding in school and in the future. I have requested new leveled non-fiction and fiction books to help motivate my students to read longer and stronger. The more they read, the more they will succeed in school and in life. "Readers are leaders!" I want my students to have every opportunity to get ahead in school and be able to earn scholarships for college. It is very competitive out there and they need to increase their vocabularies and reading comprehension. Successful reading will help them accomplish these short term goals. Hopefully they will continue to love reading, and having a lot of books will certainly help.

Books can make a difference in a child's life because you can get lost in a book, go on an adventure, learn new things, and use your imagination without ever leaving your seat.

Second language learners need to read even more so they see in print what the English language should look like. Reading a lot will also increase their writing abilities. Talking about their books to their reading partners will also help them with their speaking abilities. Books open so many doors!
