My Students

My students are wonderful. First graders are full of energy and are always excited about learning. We are a Title I school that serves children from diverse backgrounds. First grade is such an exciting time for learning because the children grow so much academically and socially throughout the year.

First graders love learning to read on their own.

One way to foster a love for reading independently is by teachers reading aloud high-quality literature to children! I want to incorporate more inclusive literature that highlights children from all cultures so that I can help teach my students about respect for all people.

My Project

Reading is a critical part of learning for first graders. They learn all sorts of different topics through reading picture books. Read alouds often spark meaningful conversations with children that help them explore the world around them.

Children need to have access to high quality literature that can teach them about kindness, inclusiveness, and respect for their world.

Allowing children to read about different cultures and ways of life will help broaden their horizons.

These books will be used with my students each day to encourage important conversations about what is happening in the world.
