Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in an inner city school. They are predominantly second language learners. We are a Title I school, in which we get state funds to support students learning in low income neighborhoods. These funds are not enough to accommodate the number of classrooms and students we have. In our school community, many of our students have parents with little to no education and or significantly low paying jobs. This sometimes becomes an obstacle to provide their children with the educational support needed and every day experiences to broaded language and knowledge.

These students love to be challenged and are hungry for learning.

They work hard and always try their best to learn. They don't let life's obstacles hold them back.

My Project

Our classroom library currently has no seating but the classroom carpet. When visiting other classrooms for buddy reading, my students enjoy all of the flexible seating that is available for those students. I have tried many different types of seats but they usually pop, rip, and break.

The couch and chair will bring life to our current library area.

Both would be the perfect fit to our library and make it an exciting place to be; to read and talk about books. These two seats are very sturdy to which they will provide comfort and a homelike feel.

My students will no longer have to sit on the carpet (if they do not want to). They will have a choice as to where they would like to sit, read and enjoy a book.
