Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach pre-K in a high need, Title I school with low socio-economic backgrounds. The majority of the students receive free lunch and live in an area where it has high crime neighborhoods.

Most of my students walk to school.

The closest library is about 10 blocks away and due to unsafe environment, many of them do not obtain high quality reading materials. We make a lot of handmade books in the classroom. My students love to read and they read these books over and over.

My Project

I need ten hardcover literature books in my classroom library so that I may provide students a checkout system and have books easily accessible into their homes. This will help promote the love of reading by having students obtain good quality books easily.

Many research studies have shown that lower socio-economic areas struggle in part due to the lack of current literature.

Reading starts in preschool so I feel it is vital to provide current, meaningful literature where my students can easily access these books. Helping me obtain these books will help enhance the love of reading for my children.
