My Students

Do you remember how it felt the first time you were so engaged in a book that you were disappointed to see it end? You couldn't wait for the next book in the series to come out? That's the feeling I want to create within my students by offering them a wide variety of books to read in my classroom.

My classroom consists of students from different backgrounds and different ability levels.

My school consists of a very tight-knit group of students who love being a part of a small community. My classes are diverse in ability...one class being inclusion; made up of students with reading abilities ranging from 3-7 grade. My other classes are gifted/honors students who typically love to read, but of course there are some who'd rather not! I want to instill a love of reading within each and every one of my students.

My Project

My students need a classroom library with a variety of genres to choose from. I have requested books like Coach Carter, Keeper, Shooting Star, and Catching Fire. The requested books will help my students become more independent in their reading. My hope is that they will find books that appeal to them and it will encourage them to continue to read. Some of the books may be used as a read aloud with the class, for enrichment, or for remediation. My students are always looking for books/genres they are interested in, but have trouble finding them in the school library. I chose a variety of books from various genres to hopefully appeal to every student.

At this moment I have no classroom library.

Having these books would be a great way to get it started. When I was in middle school I had someone introduce me to a book series which really got me hooked on reading. I now read every day and love to share my passion of reading with my students. I would love to be that person in their lives who gets them hooked on reading! It has been proven that people who read have a better vocabulary and are stronger students. Readers are leaders!
