Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As first graders, there are so many "firsts" that will happen this school year. It is very exciting to see the exponential growth first graders show from the first day of school to the very last. My goal is for all my students to build a great foundation for their school career.

I have a classroom full of vivacious and inquisitive first graders.

Like other young students, they are excited about learning and playing with their friends. My students are from various backgrounds, and at our school we celebrate our diversity. Our school is a math and science magnet, and our students come from all around our district.

My Project

I have chosen many books of different genres to teach my students what good readers and writers do. The books will act as our mentor texts in our Writer's Workshop to teach us how to write like good authors, and they will also serve as Read Aloud books for our Reader's Workshop so students can learn comprehension strategies and skills. I will organize the books using the tubs that are being requested. My students will also be able to find their writing papers on the organizer that is being requested as well. My students will also need music to write to during our Writer's Workshop time, so the iPod will serve as a great way to store and play music. The computer will help my students by allowing them to access educational videos, slide shows, and images that will supplement our curriculum thus making our lessons more meaningful and complete. The videos, slide shows, and images will help particularly with our math, science, social studies, and health lessons.

This project will improve my classroom by providing books that will instill the love for reading and writing.

My students will be exposed to and be able to learn from classic, quality books that are from different genres. The books will be organized by genre using the tubs. The computer and iPod will complete our technological needs of our classroom so that we may effectively teach the subjects, like math, science, social studies, and health, that are just as important as reading and writing
