Readers and Writers Unite to Become American Revolution Whizzes!

Help me give my students a wide array of nonfiction books to utilize during our reading and writing workshop units of study on the American Revolution.

My Students

Carpe Diem! These are the words that greet my students daily as they enter our classroom. I aim to create an environment filled with creativity, educational challenges, happiness, and self-awareness. Every day, my students rise to the challenge and truly seize the day!

My students attend a Title I public school in New York City where nearly 100% of students come from low-income households.

My students are a diverse group of intellectually gifted fourth graders. Their interests are unique and varied, yet they share the trait of innate inquisitiveness. Our classroom is a place of discovery and inquiry. We strive to tap into our higher-order thinking skills on a daily basis; pushing ourselves to explore and think deeply.

My Project

My class is abuzz with American History! We will soon be studying the events, people, and places of the American Revolution. This study will connect not only our work as historians, but as readers and writers as well.

Through reading and writing workshop, we will be able to support our study of the American Revolution by immersing ourselves in nonfiction reading and writing.

The requested books will allow us to have the necessary materials to become researchers. They will also serve as models for us to write our very own books on some facet of the American Revolution.

We will also utilize digital resources, but the books are so very important for us to become well rounded readers, researchers, and writers. These books will become an integral part of our work, and they will not only enrich this year’s students, but the lives of many future students as well.
