Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
No matter how intelligent a student is, he will reap the benefits of his education only if he has developed adequate listening skills in the classroom. Efficient listening in the classroom saves time and results in improved academic and social skills.
My school is in an urban , title 1 area.
85% of students receive free/ reduced lunch. My class is diverse culturally. 1/2 of the students are from single parent households. In a class of 24, 4 students are designated with special needs.
The students in my class are enthusiastic learners who love to read and being read to.
My Project
With a listening center my students will be able to listen to stories on CD's. They will hear spoken words to develop oral comprehension. They will use audio books to practice summarizing, fluency, discuss stories with partners, and complete story maps. They can also create recordings of themselves reading. Basal readers will provide reading for struggling readers.
Efficient listening in the classroom saves time and results in improved academic and social skills.
Students with special needs, audio learners and 2nd language learners will benefit from repeated reading of stories. They will develop better recall of information, interest in reading. They will learn to read fluently, with oral expression and prosody. They can self correct too.
