My Students

Second grade is a wonderful place to begin your travel to new worlds as you turn the pages of a book. My students have active young minds and are anxious to begin new adventures daily. They come to school full of questions, excitement, and ideas that are fueled by their recently acquired reading skills.

These beginning readers are realizing their potential as they exercise their independent capabilities to read and write to new heights.

I take pleasure in watching their joy in learning. Everything is new and exciting to their developing minds. They openly share the things they learn from reading and take ownership through creativity as they describe their own ideas in writing. Reading helps them understand themselves and others!

My Project

Second graders love to tell stories, but in their excitement the details often get confused. Students need guidance and practice telling stories. One of the best ways for them to learn is to hear stories being told in detailed sequence. These books will give my students a strong foundation of literature and storytelling.

Students need exposure to good literature and then opportunities to write their own stories.

After hearing stories students will practice making story-maps on their whiteboards and writing sequence on their clipboards. After navigating the writing process they will be able to type and print a finished product they can be proud of!
