My project needs 50 notebooks and folders for the children to use throughout the school year to keep track of their reading and writing materials. My project also needs a variety of reading resources to enhance their learning library.
I am currently finishing up my seventh year teaching fifth grade in inner city Albany, NY. I have found over the years that one of the biggest obstacles I face is being sure the children are prepared for school each day. Although I try to do as much as possible in supplying them with the things they will need to be successful in school, it is often hard to fund such projects on my own. Above all things, I would like the children who leave my class to have a sense of accomplishment. I teach them to be independent thinkers and how to use their skills for good. One of the strengths I like to build on is each child's imagination, whether it be through writing, music, or illustration. As a child in school, I found great comfort in writing and I love to convey it's importance to my children. By supplying them with the necessary supplies for building a class book of their collections, it enables them to have their own legacy to carry with them throughout their school career. Exposing them to many varieties of reading material will also give them the opportunity to expand their wealth of knowledge in adding to the pieces they publish in the class anthology. If the children are supplied with notebooks and folders to keep their writing in and a classroom library of reading materials, from the start of the year, it will give them a good jump start to success.
I hope that you will help give my children the opportunity to read, write, and imagine!
