This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are really awesome. They bring a wide variety of skills, abilities and stories into my classroom. We are a Title I School located in New York and my students bring diversity to life. They want to do their best and learn for themselves but are often not given the supplies or opportunities to do so.
A quality educational experience with access to great literature will go a long way in ensuring my students will become life long learners and advocates for their future.
My Project
Reading is such an empowering tool and experience. I would love my students to be interested in reading to understand that it can take them anywhere. My biggest challenge getting them there is the lack of high-interest books and lighting their internal literacy flame. The books chosen in the project have been recommended by other students in the same grade levels that have lit their flame, so I'm hoping this can transfer to my students.
These books will make the world of a difference in the lives of my students, their classrooms, their futures and their successes.
These books will encourage these children to learn to love reading and continue to do so when they move up in life. These donations will enrich our discussions and make us come together as a class to improve all of our learning regardless of individual abilities.
