This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the cornerstones of our English studies at our high school focuses on students' ability to engage with a book of their own choosing and to read it on their own.When students have the option to choose what they ready, they practice a key skill for our class and are more likely to feel more at-ease when reading with our class.
My students chose these books (some from their own lists, some from a class list I put together) and identified them as interesting or meaningful to them.
By putting these books in the hands of my students, I hope to see their confidence as readers grow. Our students typically come from economically-challenged backgrounds and may lack support at home to pursue their education. That's why at CVA we strive to emphasize the importance of education and seek out ways for students to find the confidence they need to succeed in an educational setting and beyond.
