My Students

My first-grade students come from various backgrounds from inner-city Philadelphia. My students are very hardworking and motivated to learn all the time. They absolutely love hands-on activities, reading, and any project that allows them to be challenged while being creative. They have so much potential to be awesome readers, writers, and mathematicians, and I am hoping that with a little extra push they will all be successful and remember their first-grade class as the best class they ever had!

My Project

We all know that the Coronavirus has been making schooling a challenge for parents, teachers, and students alike. For the little ones, it is even more difficult. When scholars are first learning to read and write, they need hands-on materials. They need to be able to hold the books in their hands, learn about how to turn the pages, what a cover is, how to follow along with their fingers.

Imagine how difficult it would be to learn to read on a just a computer.

That's the reality my students are facing unless I am able to provide them with materials to use at home. My students' families are already facing hard economic times, and often don't have any books at home. While I am relieved to know we will all be safe at home during remote learning, it means I need enough books for all of my students. These books would help me to be able to provide each student with their own books, on their level, that they can read and practice on their own-learning all of those important reading skills that we often take for granted. I cannot describe how much any assistance it would mean to me, and my students.
