I teach second grade at a school that has many students whose parent or parents serve in our military. I want to use a listening station as part 90 minute literacy block. My students at present time enjoy this greatly. They often choose to listen to books on tape during indoor recess.
Using a listening center is a high priority for me as a teacher. Listening to someone read gives students skills they need to become readers. When students listen to readings on CD or tape it improves their reading and comprehension skills. I have enough stories on tape and CD to last the whole year. One for each week of the school year. I am facing an obstacle of not having one next year.
The headphone listening center belongs to the school where I am now teaching. At present time I have this in my literacy block. I will be moving to a new school and will not have one.
Children love stories and love being read to. I need the listening center to continue to provide an environment for learning. The students will listen to the readings at their learning station and then either complete a book report or a graphic organizer to further their learning on what they just heard.
You can make a difference in the life of children by donating to this project. It does not seem like a high need but it is. Having a listening station gives children that extra little boost to gain the necessary reading skills that they will need through out their life. I am asking you to help in any way you can.
