I am a Pre-K teacher in East New York Brooklyn. I can truly say I have the best job in the world. It's a tough job, but I love it. I enjoy going to work everyday and teaching my enthusiastic 4 year olds.
The only problem with my class is that they don't come from a literature rich background. Some have never been read before bed time or had the opportunity to check a book out of the library. I love the chance to introduce them to the world of reading. The places a book can take you with out leaving home is wonderful. So when I read a book and the class just loves it, it makes difficult things in my job so worth it. My class this year loves the book Go Away Big Green Monsters by Ed Emberley. I could read the story every day all day long and they would love it.
My wish for them would be that they could have their very own copy of this book, so that they could take it home with them and read it as often as they like. When a student loves a book that I read to them I know I have done my job. How great would it be to open a box from DonorsChoose and have 18 copies of Go Away Big Green Monster so that each child in my class could have one.
I know that my class would be over come with joy if they were able to take the book home and keep it. Please help me bring the joy of reading to an otherwise book-less home. I can't even begin to tell you the excitement they would have if they knew they could keep the book.
