My Students
My school is in an urban area, and it is classified as a low-performing school due to attendance and low test scores. Our school is able to provide us with some items; however, resources are limited.
We are learning and growing in our Early Childhood Developmentally Delayed classroom.
The students in my class have all been diagnosed with a disability. They range in age from 3 to 5 years old. We spend our days working and playing together to increase our kindergarten readiness skills.
My Project
My students need a horseshoe table and big books to enhance our small group and literacy center. After large group activities, students are encouraged to interact with the story of the week. Students are able to use props to reenact the story and also they enjoy drawing their favorite scenes from the story. We need a group table and big books so that we are able to work together to get a better understanding of our story.
Reading and interacting with books promote language skills and literacy in young children.
I'm trying to create a literacy rich environment, where children can safely explore stories. The right type of table and big books can help me gently encourage student directed activities.
