My Students

Our school is in a rural community in South Carolina, where tradition is thick and families depend on one another. We are a Title One school. Ninety-two percent of our students are on free or reduced price lunch plans. Students in our school are considered at-risk of failure and live at or near poverty level. I have students from many different races, religions, and academic levels. Their interests are just as diverse! They are full of personality and are just beginning to discover that they can make a difference in their world!

My Project

Reading and Writing are essential life skills and like all of us, elementary students learn best by example! Picture books are perfect for showing students what good readers and writers do.

The books I have requested will be used as Mentor Texts to teach specific reading and writing strategies to students.

Some of them are great for showing students how to identify important information or synthesize, some of them are good for teaching students how to develop a character or write an amazing conclusion, and many of them can be used for both!
