My Students

Within my school, almost 90% of students live in poverty. While the school has initiatives that provide students with free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and weekend food bags, many students are unable to come to school with supplies and spend time in classrooms that are not fully equipped with necessary materials.

My fourth graders are resilient individuals who face many challenges when they leave school; although there are a variety of trials in the world, our classroom is a place of solace and success.

Fourth grade is a time where students have deep, clear feelings about school and the world around them - and they let those feelings be known! They are learners who dive into rigorous academic content and require a comfortable, predictable learning environment.

Every student deserves a quality education, and my fourth graders are no exception. They are kind, capable learners who amaze me by what they accomplish daily and throughout the school year.

My students deserve a virtual classroom environment equipped with adequate materials that help them receive a quality education.

My Project

cWith my district starting virtual learning in September through at least January of 2021, I am brainstorming rich, engaging ways to support my students in their learning! One area of great need is through dynamic and adaptive online reading and spelling platforms. It is very important to me that cross-curricular readings, especially science texts to help students deeper understand our studies, are included in the books we read. Raz-Plus and Vocabulary A-Z have amazing features that help students read texts on their level, play engaging spelling games, and allow me as the teacher to track their learning and progress. Raz-Plus has over 3,000 leveled texts that support students online and engage them in a variety of topics; as students dive into books about wildlife conservation, exploration, the solar system, and more, I can't wait to give them the confidence and support to see that THEY are what scientists look like! Vocabulary A-Z, the new name of Spelling City, is an absolute blast for my students as they play spelling games that support their development!

Reading transforms the way we view the world and inspires us to pursue opportunities that interest us; I want my fourth graders to have access to their interests, scientific and otherwise, through Raz-Plus and Vocabulary A-Z!

Raz-Plus and Vocabulary A-Z will be two fantastic additions to our instructional technology this year. The amazing and free IF/THEN collection of #SheCanStem resources, posters, and images will help them more deeply visualize the books they are reading through Raz-Plus! With these tools, my students will no doubt be inspired to pursue amazing STEM learning opportunities and careers!
