My Project

“Read & Rip: Cards for Literacy” is a student-led service project that combines the fun of opening baseball card packs with the goal of improving literacy in our community. Students will organize and host monthly events at local libraries, where they will mentor younger children through reading-based activities centered around baseball cards. Each event will include reading player bios, exploring statistics, and engaging in storytelling and creative writing exercises inspired by the cards.

Use of Materials:

The requested donations will fund the purchase of baseball card packs, card organizers, writing supplies, and age-appropriate reading materials. Students will use these materials to lead interactive reading stations, trading corners, and storytelling workshops. The baseball cards serve as both incentives and literacy tools—sparking curiosity, building vocabulary, and encouraging reading fluency in a fun and relatable way.

Community Impact:

Our students aim to support elementary-aged children in underserved neighborhoods, particularly those who frequent local libraries but may lack strong reading support at home. By offering mentorship and engaging literacy experiences, students will help foster a love for reading while giving back to their community. With your support, we can make reading exciting and accessible—one card, one child, one story at a time.
