it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a dedicated educator, I recognize that teaching is not a static profession—it’s dynamic, constantly evolving, and deeply connected to student needs, research, and innovation. To ensure I provide the highest quality education possible, I must continue growing as a professional. One of the most accessible and impactful ways to do this is through professional development (PD) books.
PD books serve as a personal library of strategies, insights, and real-world tools that support my growth in the following key areas:
Meeting District Expectations: Kagan Cooperative Learning. In our district, the implementation of Kagan structures is not optional—it’s an expectation. These cooperative learning strategies are designed to boost student engagement, encourage positive interdependence, and promote active learning. With access to these resources, I can strengthen my use of cooperative learning, which supports not just academic growth, but also classroom community and social-emotional skills.
Addressing Challenging Behaviors: Brian Mendler’s Work. Some of the most difficult yet important work we do as teachers involves reaching students who struggle with behavior, motivation, or emotional regulation. By incorporating his approaches, I’ll be better equipped to help all students—especially those who are often misunderstood—feel safe, valued, and capable of learning.
Books are a long-term investment in professional growth—they don’t expire after a weekend or require travel. I can use them throughout the year, share them with peers, and keep them as part of my professional toolkit.
