My Project

Why is scrabble listed as a quiz grade for this class? At Atlanta Smart Academy; we don't make excuses. We make solutions! Help us show parents the power of social emotional lessons, flexible seating environments and alternative progress monitoring formats in the classroom.

The materials included in this project will aid in the design of an alternative learning environment with targeted support features and social emotional learning tools to combat challenges presented to exceptional students with varying disabilities.

As a team member of the exceptional education department, I am constantly searching for new ideas and new elements to help increase access to learning for all students. Exceptional needs are often mitigated by simple solutions to unexpected problem sources. This could include factors, such as harsh lighting, uncomfortable seating, proximity to peers, test anxiety, physical and mental impairments or sensory interruptions.

When considering the needs of a classroom, a couch is not just a hangout spot; it serves multiple functions from behavior reinforcers to calming corners for restorative practices. A lamp is never just a light source; it can serve as a time indicator or assist with smooth transitions to ease the disruptions caused by an emotional behavior disorder. Even a simple game is never just a game. Games are powerful tools to engage students of varying learning styles in play and project based learning. A game can be used to assess progress and influence literacy rates at the same time. There are many pieces to the puzzle of success. Help us demonstrate that the elements that make up a successful project based learning model at ASA come in all shapes and sizes!
