This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a reading interventionist in a Title I school with over 50% English language learners! We work hard to develop phonics, reading, and writing skills for the majority of the school day. We need books to help our students succeed and develop a love of reading!
My students are from all over the world - Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Burma, Malaysia, Mexico, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Pakistan, and Nepal.
They are refugees and immigrants who are learning English and love to come to school! However, their life experiences have limited their exposure to reading and writing. We are using shared reading, read alouds, and interactive writing to improve these skills. They need good books as a foundation to develop these skills. Please help us to develop a love of reading in our students!
My Project
Our students need to have a story read to them everyday! We will use these books daily to inspire and delight a love of reading. Reading is the key to successful writing and learning how to read. This collection of books will inspire our children to love to read and want to become authors. Many of these books have been specifically chosen as mentor texts for different writing tasks.
Every day we will use these books to illustrate to students the endless opportunities that are open to writers and how enjoyable reading can be.
We want our students to understand the vital connection between reading and writing, and we think that these books will give them the insight that they need!
