My Students

What? I have to read and write AGAIN? That is what I face each day when it comes to reading and writing with my ESL students. They struggle with these subject, so they don't want to practice them. I need materials that I can use to engage them during class time to be better readers and writers.

My students are all at-risk struggling learners.

They struggle because they are all English as a Second Language students, and they don't always understand the English language. My students are from China, Yemen, Russia, and Mexico. They really try hard when it comes to learning, but they have the language obstacle to overcome. My students face many obstacles during the school day, and anything I can do to improve their skills will benefit them a great deal. They want to learn, but they don't have the materials to practice reading and writing at home.

My Project

We are requesting novels in English and Spanish, to improve the reading skills of my students. You will be providing my students with high-interest novels so I can teach reading skills along with the English language. It is very important that these students learn to read so they can be successful in school. If they are able to read in English, their lives will become so much easier. The novels I have chosen are all novels that are at their level, and they are of interest to them. I am requesting novels that my students have shown interest in reading, and other novels that will inspire my students to love reading. This will give my students the opportunity to improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and understanding of the English language. We will be learning valuable skills with these novels.

We are trying everything we can to get these students learning English so they can survive at school and in America.

You will be helping us with our goals. You will be helping make life long English learners out of these eager students.
