it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have an amazing group of students who love to learn. They are eager to read books at their level to help them reach their reading goals.
95% of my students are reading below grade level, so they are not very excited to read books that are either far above or below their true level.
Our classroom needs more leveled books to help my students reach their reading goals. Their community is one of the poorest in Brooklyn, however, these students are encouraged to read daily. They know that readers are leaders that go to college.
My Project
My students desperately need books at their level. Most of the books in our class library are for 1st and 2nd grade. Therefore, most students are struggling to keep their interest long enough to read them or the books are so easy they devour a majority of the books in our library within a month. When we get our leveled books, students will use them in small groups during guided reading time as well as for silent reading time. These resources will help my students improve their fluency and reading comprehension.
My classroom will be a place where all students' reading needs are met.
Students will be encouraged to read books that are at their level, so that they can reach 3rd grade reading goals. Reading fluently will motivate my students to do well and go to college in the future.
