My students need several exciting literature resources to enrich the third grade curriculum, enhance character education activities, and extend vocabulary. With these 13 rich and engaging books with titles from "Once Upon a Twice" to "The Name Game". the students will be motivated to excel during reading activities.
“The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read.”
- Abraham Lincoln
The words of Lincoln are stunning! If only there were the resources needed to help every child see and feel the value in a good book. I teach third grade in a rural area of Indiana. The vast majority of students attending my school are on free or reduced lunches and are in great financial strain.
With an obstacle like that, it's hard to hook my students on reading, much less, a good book or series of books. They are more concerned with where the next meal is coming from, or if it's even coming. My children show great interest in being read to, and I love to read aloud to them. I encourage them to read aloud to me, as well.
With these books, the opportunity to read together, just for the love of reading, will present itself much more often. Many of these resource books that I desire for the classroom are poems, or short stories. Many of them are poetry for two voices. These types of reading materials allow struggling students to participate in reading exercises that won't embarrass or hurt them. Many of the short stories are funny and teach particular skills, and character building concepts. I'm hoping that exposure to fun, and relaxing resources will help them grow as readers and as young children. They will not be bound by boredom or fear in the classroom any longer.
I supply every possible resource that I can to my students at my own expense and will continue to do so, but I am financial burdened too. This project can only happen with your help. Any gifts that you could give would be graciously used and humbly accepted. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
