I am so lucky to be back in the classroom! I spent the last 5 years holding IEP meetings and supporting students with special education needs, in a position I loved. It was time for a change and here I am!!
I have a lovely group of eight 3rd/4th/5th graders who are eager to learn to read.
I stepped into a big, bright classroom full of stuff. With each closet I've opened I've found more and more *things* but not what I was looking for. These eager to learn readers have a classroom library full of yellowed, ripped, old books. I am so excited to share the joys of reading with them, but it's hard to convince them with those books just smell bad!
My Project
These students are eager to learn, but as non readers in middle to late elementary school, they don't want to be treated as Kindergarteners. Finding books of interest and appropriateness can be tricky, but can be done! I’ve got varied reading levels from Kindergarten up to 4th grade and so a mix of books is necessary to their reading progress. While we have a variety of books already the books are old, yellowed and smell. It’s tough to convey a love for reading when the books are hard to love!
I'd love your support in helping me build a library for my high interest/low level learners!
