My students need our yearly renewal of our subscription to Raz-kids. This is an online program that allows students to practice reading at their level and tracks their progress. Students can access at school or home.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is unique because the majority of our students are second language learners. Many of them are refugees from countries that are riddled with poverty, violence, and prosecution. Our neighborhood is one that struggles with poverty and hunger. 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. We also partner with Feeding America to bring groceries to the families twice a month.

Despite the obstacles facing these students and their community, they are determined, intelligent and eager to succeed.

We have a wonderful opportunity to learn about many different cultures and languages. The students develop a respect for one another that is built on trust and friendships.

My Project

RAZ-Kids offers a new approach to traditional reading. Students can listen to books, read books, record themselves, and take quizzes all to earn points. With earned points, students can create a unique avatar. I can set their reading level, listen to them read, monitor their progress, and assign work. The students can also access this program at school on desktops or tablets, as well as at home on any device with wifi.

The bean bags will be used as a comfortable,cozy and fun place for the kids to do RAZ-Kids on their tablets!

The kids are always searching for new and exciting places to sit.

Each year I either rely on donations to purchase the program or fund it myself.

RAZ-Kids has allowed my students to become strong and confident readers! Reading has become fun again in my classroom!
