My Students
I have a wonderful group of 3rd graders that really enjoy learning! My favorite part of teaching is helping my students develop a love for learning! Our school is amazing, and it is a very warm and inviting place. We have a wonderful community of teachers, parents, and students working hard every day to help everyone succeed.
My school has a very diverse population of students and families.
We are located in what some call a bedroom community, because parents work farther from home. Some of our students are low income, English Language Learners, come from single-parent homes, or are living with other guardians. It can be challenging meeting the needs of the varying abilities and backgrounds of the students, but it is something I enjoy doing. I am looking to instill a love for learning in my students.
My Project
My students need mentor texts to inspire them to write and read more. Currently my students have very little mentor texts. The ones they request, the school never has. With these texts the students will be able to experience different writing styles and grow as writers. My students need books about the United States so that they can research the state they pick. We have just a few books on the United States but most are out dated. With new books, more students can utilize an actual book and learn how to cite information. The book display will be used to display the mentor texts that we have read. This display will be up front so the books are visible and readily available for the students to access. Right now they sit on the floor and have to be moved everyday. Book bins will be helpful for my students to keep their reading selections in. Currently they are using a cardboard style that falls apart half way through the year. Finally, we are requesting an easel that our chart paper can go on. We have no where to productively use our chart paper, which makes it hard to co-create anchor charts that can be referred to through out our lessons.
