My students need 12 good books to read including "The Unwritten Rule" and "The Disreputable History of Frankie".

My Students
Teenagers, on average, send more than 100 text messages a day, and read for seven minutes. That's why I'm launching "Read More Than You Text," a campaign to urge students to ditch the phone and get into a good book.
Nearly all of my students will be the first in their family to attend college.
They work hard and dream big. But they do not read nearly enough. (They're texting too much!) Like most high schoolers, my students read only what the teacher assigns and what's on their phones and Facebook. That's not enough, of course. For my students to read and write at high levels, they need to be reading voraciously and voluminously.
My Project
That's where "Read More Than You Text" comes in. First I'll have my students find out how much they're texting per week. Then I'll challenge them to read one page (or more) for every text they send.
Yep: 1 text = 1 page.
My prediction is that this project will result not only in better readers but also in more thoughtful, curious young people. In order to pull off this campaign, however, I need more books for my classroom library. My students love coming of age stories, but right now, my selection needs improvement Adding books like The Blue Helmet, How to Salsa in a Sari, Exit Strategy and Shattering Glass will entice them to put their phones down and pick up a book. With a better classroom library, I am hopeful that more of my students will get hooked on reading.
I am requesting high-interest books that will lure my students away from their technological distractions.
I hope that you will consider contributing to this project. Can you imagine what I imagine, students getting off their phones and getting into books? Rather than texting so much, I'd like to see my students make connections through reading.
