This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is home to a diverse group of kids located in a low income neighborhood with many students lacking basic essentials needed for school. Some children come from refugee camps, have never been in school before or are learning English. However, they come to school each day with a smile on their face and eager to learn.

Despite their struggles at home, they persevere and thrive.

I strive to make our classroom a place where they feel welcomed, loved, safe and important.

My Project

Due to budget cutbacks, it has been many years since I have received money to purchase books for my classroom. Therefore, it has been up to me to ensure my students have quality and engaging books to listen to and read. As you can imagine, it can become quite costly.

For this project, your donation will help acquire high interest leveled books for my beginning readers as well as read aloud books that will support building our community of learners.

"I Can't Do That Yet", "The Juice Box Bully" and "Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun: Having the Courage To Be Who You Are" are just a few of the books that will lend themselves to discussing and building students' character and what our classroom/school community should be.

I know having the "right" books for kids are so important and can help unlock the magic to reading!
