Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 1st grade students are halfway through the school year. I love that they are still excited about coming to school each day. When the students enter the classroom in the morning we greet each other with a high five or a handshake. Sometimes a student may want both! It's such a great way to start the morning.
It makes my day when a student draws me a picture or writes me a note and presents it to me in the morning.
Then I show it around to other students as we hang the note or drawing on the wall. This sense of community is so important in our classroom. I want the students to know that I love, respect, and appreciate them just the way they are.
My Project
During independent reading, I provide books for the students to choose at their own reading level. We need a bookshelf to display the books. Currently, I put the books on the window ledge for the students. I would like to make the classroom library a place the students want to stay and fall in love with reading.
The Help-Yourself Bookshelf will organize and display books for the students to read.
I would love a bookshelf that displays books so students can easily see the cover. The Help-Yourself Bookshelf will help make our classroom a place where reading is exciting! Just imagine standing before a bookshelf with beautifully illustrated books!
