My Students
My students are fun, compassionate, and curious young children. When they arrive to school in the morning, they race to the schedule, excited to find out what is on the agenda for the day. Every day is fresh, new, and exciting!
My diverse, primarily low-income school is located in a tight-knit community in the heart of San Francisco.
Many of my students' cousins, parents, and even grandparents have attended our school! We also have a large number of immigrant families whom we welcome with open arms. The community bond shows through as students giggle, play, and learn together throughout the day.
My Project
There's nothing better than finishing a book and hearing students shout, "read it again!" Every book on this list has elicited such a response. Each time I read a book, I place it on a display shelf for students to read and look at on their own and with friends.
After being read again and again, many of our favorite books are falling apart!
We need new copies to replace the tattered ones so that students can enjoy these books for years to come.
I am overjoyed to have found Spanish copies of many of our favorites! I would love to be able to send these home for my Spanish-speaking families to read together. Hearing the same book read in both English and Spanish will help my English learners build vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.
