This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
Reading is a gateway to a long life of learning, but it is not always an easy to task for all to achieve. Some students struggle tremendously to really understand the places that a good book can take them. Whether it be because of the struggle of English being their second language, or because of a lack of exposure to good material, some students need an extra push. Having the opportunity to dive in to a book that is easy to relate to is something that will pour out incredible benefits. The Mater Grove Middle Intensive Reading students would be so happy to be able to interact together, act out, and relate to a book that can open a path to a lifetime of reading.
While reading these stories my students will be able to prepare for a continued educational life of reading. They will be reintroduced to reading as a fun and inspiring way to enjoy school and develop teamwork and problem-solving skills along the way. These stories will help them reconnect with literature and give them an advantage on reading in years to come.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to achieve a greater learning of reading, rather than using our same school provided textbook we would like to be able to relate to a good book with allusions relevant to us.It is not always as easy or fun to learn from the textbook as we usually do.
We will be developing leadership through working and collaborating together with these books. Our teacher always makes it to where we work together in groups but we take turns being in charge of the group in order to work successfully. With this project we can also express leadership within ourselves independently.
If this project is funded we will share with our middle school classmates just how much reading can help with not just our education overall but also our life experiences. We can share our knowledge of what we learned and create a presentation on our book and possibly even act out scenes from the book.
