This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most mornings I spent the first few minutes checking in with each student to see where their school brain is. Are they hungry, sad, angry, embarrassed, and what can I do to put that first smile on their face and get switch their brain into learning mode.
My students are a group of hard working kids who encounter everyday situations must adults could never even dream of.
My school works hard to create a community where all families feel welcome and safe. We have an almost 90% free and reduced lunch rate and most years families don't have the financial means to purchase school supplies.
My Project
These magazines will be used in guided reading ability groups. I integrate our Social Studies and Science curriculum into our ELA work, and finding differentiated materials that is age appropriate is extremely time consuming. Using 3rd/4th/5th grade levels gives those students who need a challenge the chance to read text at their level.
My students will be able to experience a world bigger than their own and learn more about the world around them through the love of reading.
Students will also know that through the kindness of others we have been given these materials, and what better way to teach children the concept of paying it forward when you can.
