This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
First Classroom Library: As an ESL and ELA teacher in middle school, I want my students to love reading and the only way to achieve this goal is to provide students with an accessible and diverse reading collection. I want to spark their curiosity in reading and help them learn about the world and its people – including themselves—by bring the world to within their reach, their fingertips. I am a brand-new teacher this year and I know that cultivating a rich and representative library for the YA audience will take time, but I hope you will help me in funding my first classroom library and reading nook area for my seventh-grade class.
There is no limitation as to where these students can go in life, if I have anything to do with it!
I am an avid traveler and seeker and have been blessed the with the opportunity to have these experiences. Unfortunately, for the students in the district I represent, many will not see this as an option in their lives. If I cannot take them away from their lived experiences physically, at least I can provide them with a vision that they can nurture and believe in for themselves and their future. I truly believe reading books unlocks, opens, and expands the world. Please help me and our school community give them access to the limitless potential and possibilities of their own lives. Let them discover who they are through reading!
I am looking to curate books initially for the reluctant readers; the readers who need more accessible material (highly illustrated). In addition, I want to provide a range of authors and books that represent the neighborhood my students reside in, among acquiring the most popular books, because student-choice is always preferred!
