My Students
Do you remember sitting on a carpet in kindergarten, your eyes glued to a book as your teacher read to you in a goofy voice?
Read aloud is a time for me to connect with my students as they fully invest themselves in characters and themes of our "series of the week".
LEARN 7 is a new charter school an undeserved neighborhood on the west side of Chicago.
Our kindergarten classroom has 26 students who have a passion for literacy and literary characters.
Our scholars and families have been so understanding and accommodating as we have relocated four times and endured flooding that destroyed most of our resources. Because our, students and families have been so flexible and supportive through all the changes, we would like to give back to them by giving their scholars the most comprehensive, holistic and rigorous education possible. The students in our classroom are full of amazing potential, and we want to push them to achieve their goals by teaching the importance of perseverance, curiosity and academic investment.
My Project
We are requesting author series books for read aloud, including Laura Numeroff, Kevin Henkes and Eric Carle. By conducting Read Aloud's based around author series, our students will gin appreciation and influence for their own pieces of writing. Connecting with characters and authors leads to rich conversations about the importance of perseverance, especially in reading and writing.
For many of our students, school is the first time they experience Read Alouds.
By engaging our students in Read Alouds, authors and characters, we hope to invest them in the educational value of literacy. Additionally, we want to create an excitement for learning that will follow them through out their educational career.
