Read Books That Represent Diversity in a Calm, Inviting Classroom

Help me give my students Achieve It! book sets that represent a wide array of characters, appealing to all students because representation matters! Children also learn best in a calm and comfortable classroom with an inviting carpet and seating.

My Project

My amazing second-grade students need an updated classroom library with diverse books that represent the unique diversity of our school population. Our students speak over 25 home languages and come from all over the world. We also have a thriving Autism program and learn with a rigorous, transdisciplinary, globally-minded International Baccalaureate (IB) program.

Children need diverse books that represent them and a calm, cozy classroom library designed with their needs at the forefront.

As adults, many of us enjoy curling up with a good book, and a new carpet, bean bag chairs, and calm lighting will give my second graders a space to do just that—get cozy with a great book to discover that reading and learning should be lifelong. Achieve It! Realistic Fiction Book Collection will help me update our class library to show the diversity that exists in our unique, thriving elementary school.

I’m also asking for some classroom supplies such as paint, paintbrushes, and erasers. An inviting classroom is important for children, families, and educators alike, so decor and environment should be thoughtful.

This project will help me update my classroom, especially our classroom library, to reflect the diversity and needs of second graders in a carefully curated environment.
