Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first-grade students are from a title one school in the heart of Washington DC! They come to school ready to learn but I want to switch up the traditional classroom and allow them to take charge of their own learning and learning styles. I have a classroom of diverse learners and I want to accommodate their different styles. In this collaborative space, we will be able to discuss and work as a team on projects all year long. They come excited so I want our room to be exciting!

My Project

I want my students to learn how they learn best and for many of us (even adults) that is not in a desk. I envision a room where any day any student is allowed to pick where they want to learn or read for the day and next to whatever student they like. I want my students to be set up for college and beyond, the first step is allowing them to take over their own learning. These items will allow my students to self-regulate and find what works for them. Chairs will allow them to sit on comfortably with clipboards and do their work. iPads will provide instruction at their individual level and a headphones will allow our library to be a safe place to take risks when reading. I also would love an easel that is magnetic to help them use magnetics to spell hard words. I want them to feel excited to be in my room and the seats will be the start!
