My Students

Entering into the building this school year will be 66+ smiling 6th grade faces eager and ready to learn. Scholars travel from various parts of the city and have multiple facets of home life, some pleasant and sometimes not.

Regardless of the demographics and economic backgrounds, the main goal and point of focus is that scholars receive an education with passion, responsibility, imagination, determination, and empathy-PRIDE!

These scholars aren't always afforded the opportunities others may have. The simplest of needs are often times hard to meet for some of our scholars and their families. Our first lesson in class will be on characterization and adversity.

Children today face challenges that we as adults wouldn't understand, but our scholars are resilient and with the support of school, teachers, parents, and communities, they all have the opportunity to succeed.

My Project

Our students com from a population that does not always have access to reading outside of a school environment. Libraries are not always located conveniently to a scholars home or public transportation, which most of our students depend upon.

Scholars spend the majority of their day in a classroom or school environment, the perfect and sometimes only opportunity for a scholar to read.

Having the neccessary tools to provide scholars with reading opportunites is essential within the classroom. As an ELA teacher, fostering a love and passion for reading is important.

These supplies will serve various purposes beginning with exposure to the logistics of a library. Books must be housed properly and in specific arrangement, hence the need for a bookshelf.

In order to keep a ready supply of books in good condition for all to share, scholars will learn to properly label the books for check out and return, the reasoning for library cards and pockets. This is also a time to learn accountability. Your name is listed as the student who now has the specific book. The last skill scholars will benefit from is responsibility. It is the scholars resonsibility to return to book on the date listed, as they are now being held accountable for the book.
