My Students
I love to read! Do you? I'm working to instill a love of reading in my 21 English language learner students. One way I'm doing this is by sending home audiobooks with them so they can read fun and engaging books at home, but I need your help to include more of my students.
I work with a great group of 21 English language learners in grades K-5.
My students speak Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Hmong, and English. They are working hard to master the skills they need to be successful in life. I love coming to school each day to work with such hard-working students who are so excited to learn. They attend a large school of about 1000 students. We have a great school that has recently been designated by our state as a reward school for our students' high achievement and our work at closing the achievement gap. You can help us continue to improve!
My Project
I previously had a DonorsChoose project funded for 6 MP3 players and some audiobooks. I have begun sending home the MP3 players and audiobooks in plastic envelopes with my students, but I would like more MP3 players, audiobooks, and envelopes so I can include more students in this program. So far my participating students and their parents are loving this program. My students enjoy checking out books from my classroom library, but many of the books they're interested in are above their reading levels. Since many of their parents don't speak English, they aren't able to help their children. Taking home the MP3 players and audiobooks allows my students to access books at their interest level and hear fluent reading, which will help improve their reading skills and help them learn to love reading.
Reading is one of the most important skills in life, and by supporting this project, you will help my students improve their reading.
