This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate and hungry for education. As a science and social studies teacher, I am excited and overjoyed to see that my students are so interested in understanding how the world has become what we know today, learning about ancient cultures and how they have evolved. However, I service extremely under privileged students in an impoverished, urban community where resources are scarce. I service students from ages eleven to fourteen who range in gender, ethnicity, interest and learning abilities. In this extremely diverse community, I am responsible for educating all students no matter their academic level, need, ability and interest. Daily, I teach approximately 180 students in my classroom, thirty students each class session.
Students in my classroom come to school excited to learn how the past connects to the present.
I'd like to create an environment where supplies are plenty and ready at students' fingertips. I'd like to offer my students literature that show connection from past to present. I'd like to offer my students the opportunity to understand that people have different points of view and those accounts are not invaluable.
My Project
This project will be used to encourage literacy skills at a Title I school. It will provide our students the opportunity to study current events and help them understand the importance of people, events, and issues in the news. This project will introduce students to various genre of literature and the skill of reading from various points of view.
These subscriptions provide engaging, empowering, and exciting magazine articles geared towards students' interests, historical events, current world events and more.
This practice positively affects students reading habits and encourages curious, lifelong news readers.
