Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each day my ESOL and non-ESOL students enter my classroom, I want to be content with the knowledge that I am influencing them to be life-long caretakers of our planet, Earth.

ASK – Awareness, Skills, Knowledge - As we celebrate Earth Day this school year, I want my students to embrace every day as Earth Day - I want them to be able to share with their families how we can work together to make a difference with their ASK.

My Earth Day project connects the classroom experience to homes. I would like students to design their own reusable canvas bags and get a book specifically about our Earth. The students will read the book Dear World in class and then take it home to share what they are learning about our Earth and how to protect our environment. They will decorate the canvas bags with mod podge products and fabric squares. Students will take home their bags to reuse and in so doing, they will help to take care of our environment.

I believe that when students take ownership of their learning, they strive and grow. With this project, my students will grow their awareness, skills, and knowledge (ASK) on taking care of our one and only Earth.

Thank you for your generosity again to my first-grade class. You are making difference in the classroom, in homes, in the community, and on Earth.
