My students need 3 bean bag chairs, a book shelf and a large Spanish-English Carpet.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Watson's classroom raised $785
This project is fully funded
I currently teach 24 third graders in a high needs community. Our school has a high percentage of poverty stricken students. Our school has not met reading standards in several years. The students often struggle in the area of reading and don’t find it fun. I want to make them want to read by providing comfort.
How do you reach students who don’t find reading fun and continually fall behind each year? How do we encourage students to read, because it’s fun and not because they have to? I want students to be able to relax while they read. I want them to feel comfortable in their setting. Sitting all day at desks can be very boring and causes students to lose their attention. Giving students the option to relax and hang out while they are reading, is much more exciting!
The floor in our room is pretty old and hard, so adding the carpet will add comfort. Not only will it add comfort, but it will also educate since it is bilingual! The bean bags will also add another element of comfort. These can be used as incentives for students in the classroom. Students will also be able to have an “area” by using the bookshelf as a way to divide up the class from the reading area.
Your help will build a positive connection with a student’s ideas and thoughts about reading. They need to be able to see that reading can be done in different environments and it doesn’t always have to be done because they were told to do it, but because they want to read.
