This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My class of 21 3rd-grade students has developed a love for reading. Throughout the year, we have enjoyed reading several novels together as a class. I would like our next text to have an SEL focus in preparation for middle school.
"The Golden Bee" is the perfect read for my 3rd-grade students, which focuses on the diversity within a classroom, managing one's emotions, and encouraging healthy competition.
The characters within the text are relatable and engaging. This text was also written to support students with short attention spans, which will assist diverse learners within the classroom.
I will utilize this text as a whole class read aloud. Throughout the text, we will be engaging in classroom conversations focusing on SEL and diversity in our classroom. I want to ensure that my students always know they are never alone and there are people/resources available.
Upon completion of the text, the author has agreed to do a meet and greet with the students. The students willl then have an opportunity to meet an author and ask questions pertaining to the writing process.
