Read and I Will Succeed

Help me give my students the newest books to help combat serious mental sadness and exhaustion due to being on lockdown so long.

My Students

My students attend a Title I school in Pennsylvania and all receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a typical inner-city school. Most face serious obstacles before they even walk through the doors in the morning. Our goal is to make our school a safe and loving environment.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and many different countries.

This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.

My Project

So many people are struggling mentally during this pandemic. I feel like if my students had some new books to read and we could do a little book club in the mornings during homeroom, this would give them something positive to look forward to. We would then discuss the books and the students can trade books after a few weeks. This will hopefully allow them to read more and increase their reading comprehension in a fun way. I know how much reading improves my mood and I would love to do the same for them. So many students are overwhelmed and sad with their current situation. I want them to know that through reading they can escape their daily struggles. I chose books that the students don't have access to and we will discuss these books during our online homeroom time. Through discussions, we will talk about our feelings and moods. This will be done with the characters in the book until they feel comfortable enough to share if they relate.
