Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Diverse is a word I would use to describe the CPS neighborhood school that I am so lucky to teach at. Among the approximately 1,000 students, we have at least twenty-five different cultures and/or languages represented. In addition to this, despite its size and perhaps because of its great diversity, our school has a strong sense of community. We are a family and proud of it.

The majority of our students come from low-income households and have a keen interest in learning.

This is where you can help out!

My Project

Middle school students tend to loose interest in reading, but the variety of books included on the list here are part of the CPS Battle of the Books program which attract students' attention.

With your support, you allow 7th and 8th grade students a chance to read, discuss and collaborate in teams as they prepare for online battle.

BoB participants get the opportunity to enjoy reading with fellow classmates, and in the comforts of the school library, the team gain a sense of community as they work together on a common goal with the ability to choose diverse books from the reading list.
