My students need a set of read-along stories for our listening center.

My Students
My students love listening to stories being read to them. They are tuned in and focused as soon as I turn the first page. They love hearing stories and exploring new books.
I have a classroom full of twenty eager to learn first graders, and they are the most amazing group of kids.
They come to school excited about the day and ready to work hard and learn a lot. They have a variety of different interests, and all love story time. The first thing they do when they come to class is look at the story books I have set out to read for that day. They love books and the classroom library. My classroom is also full of students whose families speak only Spanish at home. That is why hearing stories read aloud helps my students so much. It helps build fluency in young readers, especially ESL. My school is a high poverty school in Memphis, TN. Our school is also a very large school, and even though it is large the students still feel that it is their home and they are welcomed there. We want it to be a high learning environment and want these students to have every opportunity available to them.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of read-along stories and storage unit for our listening center. With such a selection of read-along stories, my students will be able to find a book and story that appeals to them. They will follow along as the book is being read to them and that will help with their fluency and vocabulary. My students are thrilled about books and always want to hear another book at story time. This is a way that students can hear read-alongs whenever I am working with a small group or with other students. Students will be able to choose to go to the listening center and pick out a story to be read aloud to them.
As a teacher I already spend a lot of my own money out of my pocket, and because I am a fairly new teacher, I don't have as many supplies as veteran teachers.
Your donations will help me provide more resources for my students to learn in a variety of ways. Having these read-along resources will improve their fluency in reading and build their vocabulary. It will also give them the extra practice that they need.
