My students are incredible! My students are in kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grade. They are curious, inquisitive, hard-working, and dedicated. All of my students have Individualized Educational Plans because they have been diagnosed with disabilities.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
They come from high poverty areas, and they all love coming to school. My students are brilliant individuals who learn differently than their peers. These students will be successful, and it's my job to create learning opportunities that ensure this.
My Project
Books transmit values and they explore our common humanity. If children do not see their realities reflected in the world around them or only see problematic representations mirrored back at them, the impact can be tremendously damaging. Every child is entitled to feel safe and valued. To redress imbalances in representation is not an act of charity but it is an act of necessity that benefits and enriches all of our realities.
It is so important for my inner-city students to feel as if they are a part of America's dream, that all rhetoric is meant for them, and that they are wanted in our classroom, school, city, state, and our country.
